Josef Mengele has gone down in the history books as one of the more lithesome men to conduct business during World War II. He was a physician at a few different concentration camps and had a strong affinity for abnormal people - specifically dwarfs and twins. He was known to conduct grisly experiments on prisoners like taking one twin's eyeballs and attaching them to the back of the other twin's head, limb amputation, sterilization and shock treatment, amongst others. When new arrivals came to the prison camps he worked at, he would often stand on a train platform, inspecting, and direct some to the left (the concentration camp) and others to the right (the gas chambers). With his white doctors coat and his arms outstretched, he evoked an image of a white angel - thus, earning him his nickname "Ter Weiße Engel" or "The White Angel." After the war, Mengele fled to South American, where he kicked about for 34 years and evaded capture by Nazi hunters. Mengele's life is the central plot line in the stage production Nichts Als Die Wahrheit! and though this story might seem a bit heavy-hearted, it's a sure fire hit for individuals who are interested in WWII and the Nazi party.
