Jazz has a reputation as a vintage style of music that's played by old people who consider the genre to be the apex of musical purity. Even though the snobbishness that surrounds many of the musicians who play jazz has undoubtedly effected the public's opinion of the music style, there are a few bands and musicians out there who drop the leathery exterior and make jazz music that's void of pretension. One such group is the Japanese outfit Soil & "Pimp" Sessions. The band was formed in 2003 in the Tokyo jazz club scene and shortly after playing a few shows, the band was lauded as one of the hottest Japanese acts around. As the group continues to perform it's characteristic style of up tempo, bebop jazz around the world, it'll surely attract new fans to the jazz genre and prove that the style of music isn't just for old cats who like to hang out in decrepit cafes and get all nostalgic about the good ol' days.
