Supergroups are typically formed when members of different successful, or at least semi-recognizable, bands come together and make music. Cream is historically considered the first supergroup and other such bands include The Traveling Wilburys, Temple of the Dog, Audioslave, Oysterhead, Velvet Revolver (ha!), The Dead Weather and Them Crooked Vultures, to name a few. One musical ensemble that is considered a supergroup is the classic sense of the word is the Icelandic based outfit Evil Madness. But instead of these musicians being noted musicians who play guitar, bass or drums, they're all respected electronic producers who have a rich diversity of sounds that's bolstered when they all perform together. Though the electronic music the group creates isn't necessarily dance-friendly, the music Evil Madness creates is comprised of so many layers of ambient noises and ethereal soundscapes that it's difficult not to get lost in the sonic creation that all group members help compose.
