Boston based singer/songwriter Chris Mansfield, despite his hard image--with numerous tattoos covering his arms, legs and even face--has always been an emotional guy. After his girlfriend broke up with him, he attempted to channel this emotion into music by writing a song to win her back. The song was a success and made Mansfield realize emotive music was his calling. Calling his one-man-band Fences, after the August Wilson play, at the suggestion of the same girlfriend, Mansfield began devoting all of his extra time and money to recording an EP full of raw, indie rock love songs. This EP grabbed the attention of producer Sara Quin, one half of indie phenomenon Tegan and Sara, who agreed to produce Mansfield's debut full length. Since then, Fences has amassed a steadily growing fan base throughout the US, Canada and the UK.
