Part of Brooklyn's thriving soul revival scene kicked into full gear by Daptone Records, Lee Fields and the Expressions was forged by Truth & Soul record heads who wanted to create a "sweet soul" album modeled after hit bands of the 1960s. To do this, they called upon legendary funk singer from the 1970s Lee Fields and a few locally respected studio musicians who all laid down the band's first single "Do You Love Me," which immediately secured the band a prominent spot in the modern soul world. While Fields and the Expressions have often split to do duets with other celebrated acts like Sharon Jones and Naomi Shelton, the band always regroups to create pitch-perfect soul.
