Singer, actress and fashion designer Jessica Simpson rose to fame as a teen pop star in the late 1990s when she was signed to Columbia Records at the age of 16 and released her debut album Sweet Kisses, in 1999. Though her first record earned her some attention from mainstream pop audiences, she wanted an edgier image and sound not too different from her musical peers, Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera, and subsequently dropped Irresistible, in 2001 to lackluster reviews. Simpson became a household name when her reality show Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica first aired in 2003, offering American audiences an intimate look at the pop star's human side and marriage to longtime boyfriend Nick Lachey. Her subsequent 2003 album In This Skin, became her best-selling album to date with the singles "With You," "I Wanna Love You Forever" and Take My Breath Away" earning serious radio airtime. After her very public divorce from Lachey, Simpson moved away from pop and into the realm of country music with 2008's Did You Know, though by this time her main focus has shifted to the beauty product line she launched in 2004. Now developed into a full-blown fashion enterprise, her brand Jessica Simpson Collection, or JSC, now offers full lines of shoes, clothing, intimate wear and fragrances in addition to her initial beauty products.
