Led by Juan de Marcos González, The Afro-Cuban All Stars is a jazz band that is driven by various styles of Cuban music including bolera, cha-cha-cha, salsa, and rumba. With roots that date back to the early 1990s, the band started as a collective that at one point featured over 50 musicians. Eventually de Marcos whittled the band down to its premier musicians and recorded 1997's A Toda Cuba Le Gusta as the Afro-Cuban All Stars. The record shot the band onto the world stage, and the Latin jazz ensemble earned widespread critical acclaim with each subsequent release. Dedicated to delivering the full range of Cuban music to the masses, de Marcos has reached multiple generations by continuously always incorporating young musicians into his band.
