The British-Indian four piece Cornershop was formed in 1991 in Leicester, taking its name from the common stereotype that all Asians and Middle Easterners own corner shops in the UK. Initially the band's music was self described as "Indian-tinged noise pop," with its first album released on "curry-colored vinyl," but over the years, the band has slowly shifted more and more to a strictly indie pop sound. While the band has suffered multiple lineup changes since its formation, retaining only one of its original members, Cornershop has consistently enjoyed popularity in the UK and continues to tour today.
