The dreamy indie duo Azure Ray seem to be the perfect amalgam of the music scenes of the two cities with which they are most closely associated. Formed in Athens, GA in 2001, the band shares with many of the bands that came out of the city's famous Elephant 6 collective, a commitment to hazy, psychedelic indie-pop. They soon relocated to Omaha, NE, joining up with Conor Oberst's Saddle Creek record label and adopting the folky, emotionally direct style that's been the label's trademark. The result is a half-whispered brand of indie-rock lullabies that feel like a soundtrack to a half-remembered dream.
