After listening to New Jersey-based singer/songwriter Julian Lynch's highly experimental music, it comes as a little surprise that he's working towards a PhD in ethnomusicology. While Lynch's music has a strong indie backbone, his tendencies to dabble in avant-garde territory have brought him accolades from folks who like to be perplexed by the music they listen to. Lynch uses a fairly standard swath of instruments in his songs including guitar, drums and bass, but the collective noise that all these devices create is nearly impossible to pigeonhole into one specific genre. If you've got an ear for the strange and abstract, yet intelligent and methodically arranged, Julian Lynch is your man.
