Swedish jazz trombonist Karin Hammar is one of the few prominent female jazz musicians, particularly trombonists. After studying at the Swedish Royal Conservatory in the late 90s, Hammar worked as a freelance musician, touring with various ensembles and big bands throughout the world, as well as building a following in her native country by playing solo at jazz clubs. In 2004, Hammar released her first solo album and in 2007, she formed the Karin Hammar Quartet, picking up a multitude of awards in her home country along the way.
