Formed in '86 by Dan Auer and Ken Stringfellow while the two were finishing up school at the University of Washington, The Posies began spreading their music through homemade cassette tapes around Seattle. Grabbing the attention of label heads, the band signed to Geffen Records in '89 and released its second full length which had many Top 40 hits. Though the band's powerpop died out a bit with the popularity of '90s grunge and band members took a hiatus to work on side projects, including Fountains of Wayne and Sunny Day Real Estate, The Posies released a greatest hits compilation in 2000 and eventually began recording songs together again in the late 2000's
