Canadian born Jon Janes, who goes by the stage name The Mountains and the Trees, formed his solo act in 2006 after drumming most of his youth. While his performances usually include various musician friends, Janes is the sole writer and consistent member of the band. Creating shy folk rock with a penchant for more unusual instruments like the banjo, mandolin, ukulele and harmonica, while experimenting with effects pedals, Janes has been likened to Julie Doiran and Iron & Wine. Receiving consistently positive reviews, The Mountains and the Trees has built a solid fan base in Canada, and through world tours, is in the process of spreading and increasing that fan base.
