New York hardcore band Yuppicide, a merging of the words yuppie and homocide, was formed in Brooklyn in 1988 out of the punk rock scene. With lyrics centered around rebelling against capitalism, American censorship, and the "yuppie philosophy" in general, the band was considered a biting social commentator. Known for its rather sensational live performances, including antics like lead singer Jesse Jones covering himself in blood and band members wearing gas masks throughout the set, Yuppicide has made a reputation for itself on the hardcore scene, especially in Germany. Though the group disbanded in 1999, it has reunited and appeased it devoted following.
