German alt-rockers Juli initially formed in 1999 under the name Sunnyglade, a band that sang in English. After changing lead singers, the band decided to start singing in its native tongue because members could write better lyrics in German than they could in English. Coupled with the language shift, the group changed its name to Juli and began recording demos. Its debut album produced a hit single translated to "Perfect Wave" in 2004, which was unfortunately banned from airwaves in the wake of the Indian Ocean tsunami. Even with this untimely coincidence, Juli produced a second album that has received much critical acclaim.
