A superpower on the political, musical and social advocacy scene, Willie Colón rose from the slums of the Puerto Rican Bronx to national stardom and influence. Starting his career as a Latin trombonist and singer, Colón quickly moved up to band leader, composer and arranger. After achieving worldwide success with his salsa infused jazz, Colón used his fame for political change - serving on the board of multiple arts, Hispanic and woman's rights organizations, even running for Congress and receiving the EPA's prestigious "Environmental Quality Award," the lifetime achievement award by the Hispanic Federation, and was included in the Top 100 Most Influential Hispanics by Hispanic Business magazine. Even through all of his political activism, Colón still continues to produce critically acclaimed Latin music.
