Slayer has been called the heaviest band in the world. The group's vicious guitar shredding and thundering double bass rhythm section combine with screaming vocals that cover topics like serial killers, Satanism, religion, and warfare to create an intense onslaught of noise. The group was founded in Huntington Park, California in the early 1980s but the band didn't break big until producer extraordinaire Rick Rubin noticed the group in 1986 and offered them a recording contract. The Rubin-produced Reign in Blood has been called a metal masterpiece and is credited with establishing Slayer as one of the more important metal bands in history.
