Formed in Iceland by three friends, Sólstafir spent five years recording demos before finally recording a full length and three more years waiting for a record label to pay due attention. Despite the slow upstart, the band, which in Icelandic translates to crepuscular rays, developed a reputation on the underground metal scene, as it honed its sound and spread its music outside Iceland. Falling into the fairly predominant Icelandic genre of post rock, but marking itself as something unique with its heavy metal tendencies, Sólstafir continues to receive critical acclaim both in its homeland and Europe.
