Funk music has some intrinsic connection to the African continent. The visceral strength of funk conjures nostalgic images Fela Kuti and his reign as undisputed King of Funk (George Clinton and James Brown are/were posers). And while funk has kinda lied in the doldrums of music advancement, the South African group Tumi and the Volume is intent on progressing the genre and making it a popular style of music that's played on the radio and enjoyed by the masses once again. The group got its start in 2007 and even though the band is considered somewhat of a newcomer to the funk style, all the members in the band are extremely adept at their instruments and play like veteran funk musicians.
