Raised in Spanish Harlem in New York City, Eddie Palmieri knew at an early age that he wanted to get out of El Barrio, so he auditioned for Weil Recital Hall at the age of 11. He began as a percussionist in his uncle's orchestra a few years later, but quickly decided piano was his calling. He now leads one of the most extensively touring salsa and Latin jazz orchestras in the world, known for its creative arrangements and flawless performances.
