As a survivor of the the Rwandan genocide in 1992, which occurred when she was only 12, Dorothée Munyaneza devotes her music to commemorating those lost in the genocide and advocating peace. Most notable for her soundtrack work for academy award winning film "Hotel Rwanda," Munyaneza blends emotional new age instrumentals with layers of her haunting voice. For her debut album, she collaborated with Martin Russell of Afro Celt Sound System and received a fair amount of critical acclaim in the world music genre.
