Evan Parker is a jazz saxophonist who played an integral role in the development of European free jazz and free improvisation during the 1960s. A pioneer of several extended techniques, he was initially inspired by the cool jazz and eventually assimilated avant-garde jazz and electronics into his sound by layering harmonics, false notes and loops into one dense soundscape. With a shifting sound, from his 1970s debut album as band leader, The Topography of the Lungs, to his 31st studio effort House Full of Floors, from 2009, he has managed to maintain his status as a modern jazz legend by catering to changing times without compromising his own style.
