Every time a musician comes along with an original - and predominantly ethnic - approach to composition, the results are typically interesting and worth more than just a passing listen. Israeli bassist Avishai Cohen brings a unique Middle Eastern and Eastern European flavor to his playing and by doing such he has risen to a prestigious position that few bass players arrive at. He began playing the bass at the age of 14. Learning quickly and modeling his playing after the legendary Jaco Pastorius, Cohen focused strongly on his playing after serving the mandatory two years in the Israeli armed services. After a call from the revered jazz pianist Chick Corea, Cohen was brought into the slightly haughty world of metropolitan jazz greats and soon he was releasing his own original music and touring in support of it with his own ensemble that would play and beckon at his every calling.
