A cloven hoof is a type of hoof that is split into two toes. This type of hoof is found amongst pigs, sheep, deer and Satan. Because of the appendage's link to the Devil, a heavy metal band from England thought it would be cool/evil/ironic to name its band as an ode to the Dark One's foot traction. The group was formed in the early '80s is is considered to be in the same vein as Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Motorhead - all falling into the new wave of heavy metal genre. Cloven Hoof has experienced a number of line up changes over the years, but whatever shape the group takes it's never let down audiences who come to the group's shows to seriously head bang and rock out.
