Massive Töne was one of the first German rapping hip-hop bands, formed in 1991 in Stuttgart at the early dawn of German rap. By the band's own admission their biggest influences by that time, were bands like Beastie Boys or Public Enemy. In 1993 the band joined the artist association Kolchose, together with other famous German rap bands like Freundeskreis and Afrob. The first real album by the band was released in 1996, making them quite popular on the German rap scene. This was followed by the 1999 release Kopfnicker, that made them popular to the general public. The band is still together, but released their last album back in 2005.
