Torch is a rap artist from Germany, who was among the first rappers in the mid-1980s, that would start to rap in German language, making hip-hop popular in Germany. Being of Haitian roots, he was born in Heidelberg in Germany. He was probably the most influential rapper for the early German Rap scene in the 90s. His very critical lyrics were meant to raise awareness of certain social and political topics like racism, xenophobia and prejudice. He participated in many hip-hop projects, such as Advanced Chemistry and Brothers Keepers and the American hip-hop legend Afrika Bambaataa named him king of the first German chapter of the Zulu Nation and also gave him the title: Overlord of Sound & Culture.
