More of a music-based multimedia project than a traditional band, Mahogany is a Philadelphia, New York City and Chicago-based enterprise spearheaded by founder Andrew Prinz. If you were only to listen to the group's recordings, Mahogany would come across as an instantly likable indie pop band that utilizes dreamy melodies and shoegaze-y guitar textures. Live, however, is another experience altogether. Using a swath of mediums, including animation, video, graphic design and photography, just to name a few, Mahogany creates an immersive multimedia world built upon creative collaboration between ensemble members. Besides traditional indie rock instrumentation, the band is known to use a huge and widely varied number of instruments and effects, including cellos, synthesizers, tape loops, samplers and more.
