Matt Cardle burst into the UK pop-rock spotlight after winning the seventh series of the popular music competition show The X Factor in 2010. The English singer/songwriter impressed judges with his guitar playing, emotive singing voice and broad crossover appeal. His debut single, "When We Collide," came shortly after his much publicized victory on the show, prompting the song to quickly hit number one on the British pop charts. During his season's run, Cardle showed the wide range of his musical interests by interpreting songs by artists as disparate as Britney Spears, Elton John, The Beatles, Joan Jett and The Moody Blues--all to much acclaim from the show's judges. Letters, his debut LP, premiered in late 2011 and includes a number of power ballads that have garnered Cardle comparisons to groups such as Coldplay and Snow Patrol amongst the British music press.
