Gustav Holst was a British composer who lived and worked during the turn of the century and into the early 1900s, producing a rich variety of choral pieces, ballets, operas and songs. His innovative use of meter and fantastical melodies mark his work, stemming from his evolution as an artist. He originally took much inspiration from Wagner and Strauss, but later became influenced by Ravel and Hindu spirituality, allowing him to make a unique musical mark on the canon of Western music. His most famous work is the orchestral Planets suite.
