When a band trucks along for a few years with a unique sound and doesn't manage to grab hold of a large listener base, it might be keen to switch musical styles in a ploy to attract a more substantial audience. This is exactly what the Argentine band Babasonicos did about ten years into its career. Starting off in 1991 with a unique new rock sound, Babasonicos strode along for years and managed to rope in a pack of dedicated fans; but craving more widespread success, the band changed its sound--in favor of more clearly defined pop rock aesthetics--and managed to gain a wider listener base. The group is considered by many fans to be one of the premiere modern musical exports of Argentina.
