After Dave Mustane was fired from the thrash metal band Metallica in 1983 - due to alcohol and substance abuse problems, as well as personality clashes with other members in the group - he vowed to form a band that would be harder, faster and more dominant than the group he was exiled from. The group that Mustane would come to form would be called Megadeth, and with revenge being one of the group's main driving forces, the band rose to prominence with a distinct style of thrash metal that highlighted Mustane's intricate guitar arrangements as well as his snarling lyrics that typically focus on politics, war, addiction and the occult.
