During the late 1970s, England's music scene was cranking out innovative bands that weren't afraid to experiment with what they thought the public would be ready to listen to. A few bands ventured into punk rock territory, others to the burgeoning new wave scene and a few towards an energetic R&B sound. Though the UK act Simply Red first got its start in the mid-1980s, the group was conceived during the late-1970s, when musical creativity was taking all sorts of different paths. During the group's heyday, it came to define a new, blue-eyed soul sound that audiences found a strong connection to--helping Simply Red become one of the more enduring acts of its generation.
