Pantera was a heavy metal band from Texas that was formed in 1982. The group actually started out as a glam metal band until after Phil Anselmo replaced vocalist Terry Blaze in 1987. With Anselmo, guitarist Dimebag Darrel, drummer Vinnie Paul and bassist Rex Brown, Pantera would go on to become one of the more popular and prolific metal bands of its generation. The group experienced the peak of its popularity in the early 1990s, although after relations with Anselmo came to a breaking point, Pantera broke up in 2003. Tragically, Dimebag Darrel was assassinated while playing onstage by a crazed fan in 2004.
