Taking its name from the year when the Black Death reached Noway, 1349 is a Norwegian black metal band formed in 1997 from the ashes of the band Alvheim. The four-piece had a rough start, altering its lineup due to musical differences and band members' commitments to side projects, but by 2000, the band had stabilized and progressed its sound enough to grab the attention of black metal fans across the country. 1349 released a debut album a year later and immediately began building a fan base throughout the US and Europe.
