Best known as the lead singer of British invasion band The Kinks, Ray Davies began honing an acoustic folk rock sound since the dissolution of his band in 1996. Though he released his debut solo effort Return to Waterloo, in 1985, Davies focused all his energy on his follow-up album The Story Teller, which captured his insightful and often satirical songwriting while still maintaining a solid rock sensibility. On top of his work as a solo musician, he has written works for a number of stage musicals including Chorus Girls and Around the World in Eighty Days, and has been recognized as one of the world's premier and influential songwriters.
