Gojira is a technical death metal band from the French Basque Country town of Bayonne that was formed in 1996. Praised for its inventive sound that blends a progressive approach, with a reliance on technicality and musicianship, alongside a staunch rhythm style to create an original sonic aesthetic that has won the band over hordes of listeners in Europe and North America. With the group's members born and raised in a fairly rural countryside town, Gojira's lyrics oftentimes focus on concerns for the environment and a need to protect it from corporate interests harvesting its natural resources.
