Shortly after the demise of the much beloved indie rock group Archers of Loaf in 1998, lead singer Eric Bachmann began to write songs under his new alias, Crooked Fingers. Based out of North Carolina, Bachmann and his rotating cast of band mates forgo his previous project's noisy, distortion-heavy rock songs in favor of a more stripped-down folk and alternative country influenced sound. The band's first two releases were put out by Warm Records in 2000 and 2001 before Crooked Fingers signed to the well-respected indie giant, Merge Records.
