The magic of Bollywood, with its glitzy costumes, deliciously campy performances and highly stylized construction, hits the stage in full force in Merchants of Bollywood. The storyline follows Ayesha Merchant, a temple dancer who hails from a Rajasthani family deeply entrenched in the Indian classical dance tradition Kathak. Ayesha, however, is drawn to the glamor of disco, and wants to pursue the Bollywood dream, which she achieves by being crowned as the "Princess of Romance." This does not sit well with her grandfather, who was an eminent choreographer of Indian cinema in its heyday and disapproves of Bollywood's commercialism. Friction ensues followed by a rift between Ayesha and her grandfather, when Ayesha falls in love and decides to take up the mantle of preserving family tradition. Sure to dazzle and win the hearts of audiences everywhere, this show promises pizazz, glitter, and high energy.
