Maria Pia De Vito is a presence in the world of European jazz. Her formal education was in opera and contemporary singing, but her entrance onto the jazz scene was in 1980 when she began working with various artists of this genre. She began her crossover from American to European jazz in 1994 by forming the project band Nauplia. She has since continued to collaborate and release work with many other jazz musicians.
