The Hilarious and moving play Holding the Man is written by Tim Conigrave and based on his award winning novel by the same name. The play follows the lives of two gay men from when they first meet each other in the 1970s at an all boys school and through a tumultuous 15-year relationship. Love keeps them together through changing times, jealousies, insecurities and discrimination. Their relationship is tested even further when one of them is diagnosed with HIV. Despite the very serious subject matter, the play never loses a smart sense of humor. Well received in Australia, the novel won several literary awards including the United Nations Human Rights Award for nonfiction in 1995.
