The Goo Goo Dolls are a rock pop trio from Buffalo, New York. The group was founded in 1985, but didn't break into the mainstream musical lexicon until 1997 when the band recorded the song "Iris" for the soundtrack to the film City of Angels. Though the trio was initially knocked for being an imitation of college power pop band The Replacements, The Goo Goo Dolls managed to refine its sound and make an easily accessibility style of pop-rock that has proven to be fairly commercially successful. With multiple Grammys and Billboard number one hits, The Goo Goo Dolls still make music and perform even though the band's heyday has passed.
