The Lawrence Arms is a punk rock band from Chicago that was formed in 1999 by Neil Hennessy, Brendan Kelly and Chris McCaughan. The three-piece outfit released its first LP, A Guided Tour of Chicago, in 1999, establishing its signature pop-induced punk sound and lyrical themes that mix together American pop culture with references to classic literature and world history. The group made its Fat Wreck Chords debut with the 2002 album Apathy and Exhaustion, and went on to drop it most commercially successful record, Oh! Calcutta!, with the imprint in 2006. Despite pop punk losing its mainstream appeal by the end of the 2010s, The Lawrence Arms continues to appease its dedicated following with an ardent show schedule.
