The Marlies hail from Toronto and play in the AHL's Eastern Conference North Division. The club was founded in 1978 as a team from New Brunswick then moved to the Ontario market for nine years (St. Catherine's and Newmarket, respectively). In 1991, the Marlies moved once again to Newfoundland, this time as the St. John's Maple Leafs. They resided in Newfoundland for fourteen years until returning to Toronto in 2005 as the affiliate team for the Toronto Maple Leafs. Since their arrival, the club has garnered four division championships and one conference championship, however when they played against the Norfolk Admirals for the Calder Cup, they lost 0-4.
