Formerly of the emo-tinged post-hardcore outfit The Receiving End of Sirens, Casey Crescenzo is now spearheading a new band, entitled The Dear Hunter. The Providence, Rhode Island-based project trades some of the heaviness of his former group for a more studied focus on progressive and indie rock tendencies. For what was originally viewed as a side-project, Crescenzo set some lofty goals for himself when he began recording around 2005, deciding to map his future releases around a six album long conceptual story about the life and death of a boy known as "The Dear Hunter." His songwriting keeps the prog-rock flourishes tasteful and accessible, which, combined with a broad sonic palette and knack for catchy songwriting, makes The Dear Hunter an intriguing listen for fans of modern alternative rock.
