Slave was a funk band from Dayton, Ohio that was best known for its material from the late 1970s and early 1980s. Formed by Trumpeter Steve Washington and Mark Hicks in 1975, the band saw its first big hit with its 1977 debut single "Slide," which garnered attention for Slave, the studio album that followed later the same year. Capturing a varied fan base with bass licks, soaring vocals and a unrelenting rhythm section, Slave entered the 1980s with records including Stone Jam and Show Time. Though the group's popularity faded into the decade with major lineup changes, Slave continued on until the mid-1990s, when it decided to call it a day.
