Ravi Coltrane is the son of legendary saxophonist John Coltrane and revered jazz pianist Alice Coltrane--so music is in his blood. Though Ravi was raise around music since his birth, he started to seriously pursue a career as a musician in 1986 when he enrolled at California Institute of the Arts to hone his skills as a saxophone player. Throughout the late-1980s and early-1990s, Ravi had performed on over thirty recordings as a backing musician, but in 1997, he decided to launch his solo career to focus on post-bob experimental jazz compositions. Amassing an all star cast of adept instrumentalists to support him, Ravi's solo material was met with fanfare critical laudation upon the release of his debut LP, Moving Pictures, in 1998. Having toured quite frequently ever since he started his career as a professional musician, Ravi has managed to impress crowds around the world with his impressive and forward thinking saxophone playing.
