Q-Tip, born Jonathan Davis, converted to Islam in the 1990s and changed his name to Kamaal Ibn John Fareed. He is a former member of A Tribe Called Quest and he has collaborated with a number of singers like Nas, Mobb Deep, Janet Jackson, Missy Elliott and The Roots, among many others. His debut album, Amplified, was released in 1999. His sound holds traces of jazz rap and steers more towards an alternative hip-hop direction.
