Formed by prominent EDM producers Diplo and Switch, Major Lazer released its debut album in 2009, to much success. The duo melds primarily Jamaican dance music styles--dub, reggaeton and dancehall--with electro house to form catchy, fast-paced tracks that have found a home on dance floors across the US. After the success of its first release, Major Lazer went on to drop an equally popular mixtape with British pop icon La Roux, which remixed the two artists' songs together. The duo's clout has only continued to grow in the mainstream and alternative audiences, as its songs have been remixed by Thom Yorke of Radiohead and have been sampled by Beyoncé.
