A well-respected and influential stalwart of the hip-hop community, Talib Kweli (Black Star) has now committed his talents to Idle Warship, a new collaboration with Philadelphia-based singer, Res. Officially formed in 2008, the musical partnership was actually a long time coming. Res has appeared on a number of Kweli's albums, and rightfully so, as her confident, street-savvy style lends itself to his sound perfectly. The most pleasantly surprising part of the Idle Warship experiment, however, is the seamless balance between artistic merit and genuine pop crossover appeal. These are songs that will work equally well in a club or on a nice pair of headphones--a rare feat that should find the duo an enthusiastic wealth of fans in the near future.
