Formed by two childhood friends upon moving to Toronto in 2007, Great Bloomers found a strong fan base almost immediately. The five-piece made the bold choice to release its debut EP after playing only three shows, and its polished pop with a country twang had listeners hooked. However, after playing more shows and spending more time together as a band, Great Bloomers matured its sound significantly and shifted its music into the direction of angular indie rock filled with Americana--or Canadiana as the band calls it--guitars and front-man
Lowell Sostomi's gritty, harrowing vocals. While fans of the band's previous work were a bit surprised by the shift, they were impressed nonetheless, and Great Bloomers debut LP, released in 2009, drew in an even broader fan base and a tremendous amount of acclaim.
